Chart Destruction^3

Female, Xella, Colour, Gouache )

Yet another colour theory assignment; this one was a cubist neutral, using no black. I cheated via sharpie outline, but meh!

Burn the Wretch!

Female, Anthropomorphic, Colour, Gouache, Human Behaviour )

My favourite of my Colour Theory assignments, this one was supposed to show saturation (and it kind of does, in the hills =X). To actually understand what's going on tho, you've got to know a little bit about this class: every actual painting or image we did was accompanied by at least one (sometimes several) "charts" where the teacher would have us paint or otherwise colour various swatches, then cut them out and attach them to her pre-printed charts. I was not, and am not, a big fan of these charts (and in fact I think I only did a grand total of three in the quarter). After a while, my images got to be very anti-chart =P

The Inverted Purple Skunk, burning a trio of Colour Theory charts at the stake. Woo! Go go IPS!

Seasonal Landscapes

Colour, Gouache, Landscapes )

Another Colour Theory assignment, this one was to utilize the colours generally associated with the seasons into four connected images. I vaguely cheated with summer, as it's not technically the two trees in the other three... but my logic was hey... why can't trees go on vacation in summer too? =P

Tranquility (WIP)

Bowspirit's Aim, Colour, Paint (Gouache), Female, Xella )

I'd love to use the fact that I'm now going to school again as an excuse for not having done more art-stuff recently, but that's really a bad excuse, considering I only started up again at the beginning of this month. Still, the fact that so many of my classes want me to paint instead of using Photoshop means that I am actually learning stuff... like how much I hate acrylic, for example. Point of fact, I loathe acrylic. If I had my way, acrylic wouldn't be allowed to exist anymore. But since I have to paint, and I don't like acrylic, I guess that means I'm going to be using the other type of quickish-drying paint I have: gouache.

This was a picture I drew (and inked, amazingly enough) in the beginning to the middle of March, and which I had in my sketchbook that was with me one day in Color Theory, when my teacher was a half-hour to forty-five minutes late. It's of the new design I've been toying with for Xella's dress, being that I'm sick and tired of people confusing her for Anthy (from Utena)... and it's not done, coz' eventually I'll come up with a suitable background for it, as well as re-ink the bits where the gouache stayed too opaque (mostly on the skin and sleeves. Go go white.)

Ink and Gouache (Reeves, I believe is the brand. Not sure if it matters in gouache like it kinda does with pencils/markers). Woot.

CompliApple

Female, Colour, Human Behaviour, Gouache, Anthropomorphic )

One of six completed assignments for my Colour Theory class (I can't remember if I scraped by with a horrible grade or actually flat-out failed =X), the idea was complimentary blends (if I recall correctly). My oranges kind of turned out yellow though, ewps.

Blood, Swords, and Guts... sans Guts oO;

Shounen-ai, Fanart, CLAMP, Fuuma, Seishirou, X/Tokyo Babylon, Ink, Gouache )

I'm trying to come up with popular characters and couples (of all types) to draw for KumoriCon in September (I want to try and make it cost less than the estimated $571 MINIMUM it's looking like it's going to cost now). Anyway, I asked for suggestions, and [info]zed_adams suggested Clamp's Fuuma and Seishirou. Now, I know nothing about either, really, so... =D Well, okay, I know that both are like ">D~ Blooood~" and I know Zed is the same way, so... yes.

If you've been around a while, this will probably look like a relatively familiar style—I still don't own more than three shades/colours of gouache, and ALL of them are red (I couldn't decide which one was most blood-coloured, so I bought them all).

It's not the best picture ever, but it mostly fits Zed's criteria (which were thus: I'd give an arm and leg for a yaoi Fuuma/Seishiro making out picture complete with blood, sword and guts. Alas, that's a macho-enthusiactically evil-pairing, so ...). I'm just not good at intestines and the like yet =3;;

Black Sharpie (which refused to keep the same line width xX;) and red Gouache. X and its characters (specifically, Fuuma and Seishirou and the Big Honkin' Sword of Destiny) are © CLAMP.

Word to you

Bowspirit's Aim, male, colour, Poster Paint )

Being as my portfolio for the art college with the kickass animation program is mostly digital work (a quick look at the counts the different images in my online portfolio (that'd be here, for all intents and purposes) sort of gives that impression too: fifty Photoshop and four Painter pieces for 54 CG pictures with a total of 76 total colour entries of any medium), and even though it's unlikely (sad and frustrating as hell as it may be for me, who has "the love" for traditional cel-style animation and "the not-as-much love" for 3D animation like Toy Story or Shrek), it's best if I show some level of proficiency with traditional media.

So, obviously, I choose one I've not done in YEARS, and seriously EVER O__o;;

Alex, as you may have already guessed, jumping over a brick wall for no apparent reason. This was an exercise in using traditional media (paint) and having to mix my own colours (I had six: black, white, red, yellow, blue, and green). I messed it up when I re-inked it, but there's no undo button or layers with paint .__.;

Poster paint and a generic sharpie on what I believe~ is a 5" x 7" canvas.
